Can I buy just one? Checking small orders from overseas

You have found a part or product overseas and want to try just one. A minimum-order number or a price per box makes it hard to tell what you would actually receive. Start by checking how many units the seller will supply and the cost of delivering that quantity. This guide helps you ask about a small purchase before committing to a larger order.

Separate one unit, one pack and the minimum order

Compare the selling unit beside the price with the quantity entered at checkout. If a box contains ten pieces, check whether entering ten orders ten boxes rather than ten pieces. Ask whether different colours or models can be combined to meet a minimum, or whether the minimum applies to each variation.

  • Is the listed price for one unit, a box or a set?
  • What is the smallest order quantity or minimum order value?
  • Is the exact model or colour in stock?
  • Can a small order be shipped directly to your country?

MOQ means minimum order quantity. If you need fewer units than the listed minimum, ask whether the seller can supply the quantity you need.

Ask about a paid sample if you want to try one

If the regular minimum is too large, ask whether one unit can be purchased as a paid sample. Replace details in brackets before sending, and change one unit to the quantity you need:

Hello,
I am interested in [product URL / model].
Could I buy one unit as a paid sample?
Please confirm the item price, any minimum order,
and shipping to [country and postal code].
This is an enquiry, not an order. Thank you.

Check the quantity the seller can supply, unit price and shipping in the reply. Ask whether the sample’s specification, accessories and return conditions match the regular product, then decide whether it suits what you want to try.

Compare delivered costs once the quantity is clear

A low unit price can still exceed your budget once shipping or packing is added. Request separate quotes for one unit and for the quantity you actually need. Compare goods, shipping and known extra costs. Leave unknown shipping open for confirmation instead of entering zero.

Paid samples also need tax and import checks. For delivery to Japan, consult Japan Customs' small-consignment guidance (Japanese) and check the product, use, material and origin. State personal, internal-business or resale use when needed. If you later buy in bulk, check import conditions, taxes and shipping again for the planned quantity.

Get help coordinating the seller’s answers

PORTLETTER can email the seller about small-order or sample availability and bring the shipping and other checked costs into a quote. Start with the product URL, any specification not clear from the page, quantity and your reply email. You can enquire even if the quantity conditions are still unclear.

We handle requests where the supplier can deliver directly to you and import conditions can be checked. The estimate brings together goods, shipping and other costs for your required quantity, so you can check your budget before deciding whether to buy.
